Although a long 2 days, it was truly worth it. The knowledge that I obtained as a first timer was so awesome. Mike was very thorough and kept the class engaged and encouraged. My fears were greatly reduced on the range as Butch and Frenchie were so patient and had so much compassion with me. I feel prepared, overcame my fears and look forward to taking more classes with this company. I will be a forever customer and would highly recommend Rochester Personal Defense.

Being comfortable and confident in a new environment is intimidating. Mike taught the 18 hr conceal and carry permit class and made the class feel welcomed. With all different abilities he bridged the gap from experienced shooters to first time gun handlers. The experience left me more knowledgeable. We had fun in the class the instructors helped me feel more comfortable even with 18 years of prior experience. Definitely checking out more classes with RPD.
The instructor, Mike, did a good job of presenting the material. He prepared us well for both the written qualifying test and the shooting test. The class was interesting and informative.
I came into this course so nervous and from day 1 class Jim Santos not only made you feel comfortable but he made learning interesting, fun and excited for day 2. These instructors without a doubt have a genuine passion to help guide you along the way! This class was filled with incredible knowledge and honestly I was sad it was over, but it doesn’t have to be ! They offer a high amount of different classes that keeps you current. If you have any doubts on taking this class. I promise you it’s worth every penny and every minute of your day. Thank you Jim for all you did for us! Thank you to all the other instructors on day 2 for all the support , training and fun as well! You guys are awesome!
Attended the 18hr concealed carry course, and couldn't have asked for a better experience. Instructor Mike was very knowledgeable and kept the course interesting and engaging. I highly recommend this class whether you have experience with firearms, or never held a pistol before. They are welcoming and put you at ease well before you ever get to the range.
Mike is an amazing instructor. He truly made me feel comfortable and helped ease my nerves. I recommend him and will be telling friends to attend the class. I’m excited to attend future classes and expand on my current knowledge.
Just wanted to say thank you for all the knowledge and support you gave me Dave Jenkins made this class nowhere near boring. Also I wanted you to know how much I appreciate you letting my son join the class to get educated on what seems to be the thing that he is most interested in! Firearms and safety!!! Just so you know the weapons are pellets and the cardboard one is a M4-A1 he made me with a glue gun !
A great class -- very thorough coverage of all safety topics. But also a good interactive job of getting students to think about the legal aspects of firing a weapon. For a novice -- this was excellent. They built a lot of confidence and kindness into the class. So if you are not an experienced gun person, this is fantastic. Great instructors with a good sense of humor and a lot of patience.
Absolutely amazing experience here for the 18hr NYS Concealed Carry Training Course!!! Our class instructors were Mike & Butch. They did such a great job making 100% sure that all of us in the class left feeling a lot more knowledgeable, safe & comfortable when it comes to understanding, handling & responsibilities of owning a handgun. Seriously, if you're still reading my review just make the decision to go with Rochester Personal Defense. I did research on places beforehand as well & I definitely don't regret choosing this company.

I was truly impressed by Mike as an instructor. I went in to this class with an open mind, but also 10+ years of owning pistols, and some military training, but Mike taught me some new things, but most importantly he gave fantastic guidance to those new to the field. The sad reality of gun ownership is that there are a great many people who have the wrong mentality about owning guns and almost seem to fantasize about reasons to use them. I've had instructors who propagate this mentality and it is one of the worst things in the industry. Mike was quick to point out how absolutely wrong, awful, and morally reprehensible this is. A few members of the class seemed to come in with this attitude, and by the end of a short 2 day class, no one was thinking this way. Mike is truly a credit to the industry, and I am very glad and fortunate to have attended his class. While I am not in favor of mandatory things, a class with Mike should be mandatory to ensure we are putting safe behaviors out into the world of gun ownership.

I had an amazing experience during the Pistol Permit course held in Savona, NY! From the moment I walked in, our instructor Dana was friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Dana made the whole process smooth, ensuring we understood each aspect taught. I felt comfortable throughout the entire course. The experience was top-notch. I will definitely return to Rochester Personal Defense for more exceptional training.
I have zero experience with shooting or anything guns. I decided to take this class so that I can target shoot and do events with my friends. Rochester Personal Defense was a great experience. I learned a lot and got some very helpful instruction shooting. I feel I can safely handle a gun and am prepared to take more classes and practice shooting. Dana was my instructor and he was engaging, patient and knowledgeable.
I can't recommend RPD enough. Course material was written and laid out really well. Dana was a great instructorSuper informative and engaging. Wendy was really helpful during the range practice. Dave was fun and encouraging. All were a plethora of knowledge. I highly recommend these guys.
Absolutely great experience with Rochester Personal Defense! Mike and the rest of the crew made everyone feel comfortable and confident. Most of the time was going over a slide show, however Mike did an excellent job keeping everyone engaged and the shooting range was the best part. 100% recommend for anyone, whether you’re new to firearms or in law enforcement! I completed my CCW training this weekend, Mike was the instructor. Very satisfied with the experience, I learned quite a bit from him. Took my 18hr NYS mandated class here. Mike was our instructor and made these 18 hours a breeze and very entertaining as well as provide a lot of information I wasn’t aware of. High recommend going with the. If you need to get your CCP.
I have taken multiple courses with Dave and his team of professionals. When NYS said we MUST take a course in order to get cc rights ,I was like most ....ugg really with a few other choice words lol. Upon taking the course ,I found it to be very informative. The team teaches in a manor to keep you informed of the new laws and your rights along with alot of useful information.Their door is always open for questions and concerns thru your entire process and beyond. Recomend them 1000 %!!!!

Very informative, and good flow of the class. Mike was a great instructor. I will be taking more classes with them. Education when it comes to firearms is important. Everyone here was great at teaching that while keeping it fun.
Wonderful instructors! The material is easy to understand. I liked that they helped at every point to improve your knowledge and skill set. As a woman it is nice to feel not judged and easily helped at any point no matter what the question was. Definitely recommend coming to this place!

I took the 18-hour course in Savona, NY with Dana Gridley. One, because I wanted knowledge and experience from a trained professional. Family and friends are not always the best teachers. Two, because NYS requires it for CCW, (personally, I would have wanted to take a class even if it wasn't required). I was nervous at first having not handled a firearm in almost 40 years. Dana made the class interesting and fun even though there is a plethora of information to cover. He was very interactive during that classroom session. Definitely NOT boring! The live fire was a little stressful for me, but Dana was very patient and encouraging. By the end of the course, I felt less nervous. Lol He encouraged us to get more training, which I will certainly do. He gave us the information we needed to do that. Dana was a wonderful instructor, and I would look forward to working with him again.
Mike is amazing! I couldn’t have spent 2 days not awake with anyone else but him. He kept class light and fun but also very serious!!When I signed up for this class I was dreading the 18 “hour”…But I’m so glad I did it and I’m so glad that I have this new knowledge that I didn’t have before.Highly highly recommend this place!!!!!!!!!My 1st time ever shooting a gun!
Amazing amount of information shared.Tom/Mike/Matt are a great trio.Mike did it again! Susan wasnt even wanting to go to last evenings class let alone fire the handgun. Mike said no problem when we walked in. By the end of the night she had put 2 of 5 rounds into the green center and all 5 groups within 4 inches of each other.Matt stood right by her for each shot, gently assisting/coaching her. Susan left extremely proud of what she overcame and credits your team for that success.Amazing night with both instructors! Thank you so much.Looking forward to more classes with your group.Emil
I had an excellent experience at the 18 Hour Pistol Permit course. The instructors were great and kept the class engaging I had no prior experience handling a gun but they made me feel at ease lu and David were great I had fun and learn some pretty interesting things and gave me lots of feedback. I will definitely come back to take more classes here.
The instructor Mike was an expert facilitator. Very patient, experienced and a wealth of knowledge and how to get it across. Made 8 hours of Excel presentation seem like a movie experience yet it was very informative. At the range, the entire team was very professional and reassuring. I recommend this course to anyone even if they don’t plan on acquiring a firearm.
Just do it!!! Dave and Wendy are incredible instructors with more knowledge and skill than other instructors I have worked with. I'm a novice shooter and I felt that I improved tenfold just after two days with these folks. This course was designed for more experienced shooters but I did not feel that I did not belong. I received expert advice and ran through all of the drills that were presented. BTW, I was the oldest(67 yo) and I would take this course every week if I could!
